Swanage Musical Theatre Company

Stepping Out is a play written by Richard Harris in 1984. It was produced in the West End, London, where it received the Evening Standard Comedy of the Year Award, and on Broadway, New York. It was later made into a film starring Lisa Minelli and Julie Waters.

The play concerns eight individuals from disparate backgrounds and with differing motivations who attend the same weekly tap dancing class in a dingy North London church hall. Despite the students at first treating the classes as social occasions, and showing little co-ordination, they later develop a level of skill and cohesiveness.

The dance routines are the background for the focus of the play, the relationship and interaction of different people.

They are backed by the swinging Don Hunt band. Mr Hunt has also served as Bruce Forsyth’s musical director for over thirty years and during an amazing career has held the same role for the likes of Anthony Newley, Bing Crosby and even the real Sammy Davis Jnr.

‘The Rat Pack Is Back’ includes all of the hit songs made popular by the legendary performers such as "Ain’t That A Kick In The Head", "The Lady Is A Tramp", "My Way", "Mr Bojangles" and of course, ‘New York New York’. These are performed with Amazing Accuracy. These guys not only sing like their heroes, they physically resemble them on stage, share their unique mannerisms and even talk like they are appearing at the Sands.

Among the band members are Simon Care, Gareth Fletcher, and Ashley Hutchings plus others.   See the exciting dance displays of solo dances and traditional Cotswold Morris.   The Teesside Troubador, Vin Garbutt, returns to Swanage bringing his own unique mix of superb songs and hilarious tales. A chance to see him in two very different concerts.   Chris Leslie has spent his life playing the violin, and subsequently the mandolin, in a variety of bands over the years, including, but not only, Whippersnapper, Simon Mayor's Mandolin Quartet, The Albion Band, St Agnes' Fountain,  and currently Fairport Convention since 1996. His session credits include work for Ralph McTell, Steve Ashley, Alan Stivell, Chris While and Julie Mathews, Jez Lowe, Christine Collister, Maartin Allcock, The Melstock Band, Kieran Halpin, John Wright, All About Eve, and Mostly Autumn.
